ORLANDO, Fla. -- Former Detroit Tigers left-hander Gregory Soto has signed a one-year, $7.75 million deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Soto, who turns 31 in February, was signed by the Tigers out of the Dominican Republic and pitched in the big leagues from 2019-2022. He was the club’s closer for most of the final two seasons, making the All-Star team in both years.

The Tigers traded Soto to the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2023 season, acquiring Matt Vierling, Nick Maton, and Donny Sands in return. The Phillies later flipped Soto to the Orioles at the 2024 deadline .

In 2025, Soto posted a 3.96 ERA (3.29 FIP) with 44 strikeouts and 18 walks over 36 1/3 innings for Baltimore before being shipped to the New York Mets at the deadline .
