A four-year-old French mastiff and Bullmastiff mix from Oklahoma has set a new Guinness World Record for having a super long tongue.

Ozzy claimed the title for the longest tongue on a living dog with a tongue measuring 7.83 inches, Guinness World said in a news release.

Ozzy, with his unusual body feature, overtook Rocky, a male boxer from Illinois, who had previously set the record with his 5-inch-long tongue, USA TODAY previously reported.

'Abnormally, awkwardly long'

The dog's owner, Angela Pick told Guinness World they discovered the achievement after they took their dog for a "routine nail trim, and his veterinarians took the opportunity to measure his giant tongue from the end of his snout to the tip."

“He has always had a tongue that sticks out of his mouth, ever since he was born,” Pick said. “But there’s nothing medically wrong with him, we’ve had him looked at a couple of times by a veterinarian, and there’s no dental issues or anything – it’s just abnormally, awkwardly long!”

Despite being a record holder, Ozzy doesn't use his tongue for "a lot of licking," Pick told Guinness World.

“It’s funny, for his tongue to be the way that it is, he doesn’t really lick a whole lot," Pick said. "He doesn’t give kisses – he gets in your face and kind of loves and rubs noses, but he doesn’t really lick on a lot of stuff!”

'Good fit'

Pick said they picked Ozzy from the litter because of his personality.

“You could tell with his great nature that he’d be a really good fit for our family," Pick said.

Ozzy's favorite things include going for car rides, hanging out with his family and eating his favorite dog food, which needs a lot of to support his long tongue.

Pick said her dog's record-breaking tongue fascinates everyone he meets and automatically puts an “smile on people’s faces.”

The family is thrilled and “super-duper" excited with Ozzy's new title.
