ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgia Democrats narrowly flipped a state House seat Tuesday night in a special election.

Eric Gisler defeated Republican Mack “Dutch” Guest IV by 197 votes in a race to replace Marcus Wiedower in House District 121, which includes most of Oconee County near Athens, Georgia.

Wiedower, a Watkinsville Republican, was first elected to the state House in 2018 and served on several key committees, including appropriations and ways and means. He resigned on Oct. 25, 2025, to pursue a business opportunity.
