One day after finishing as the runner up suitor for Philadelphia Phillies Kyle Schwarber, the Baltimore Orioles reached an agreement with free agent first baseman Pete Alonso on a five-year $155 million contract, according to sources.
Alonso spent his entire seven-year career in Queens as a member of the New York Mets where he won Rookie of the Year in 2019 and tallied five All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger award.
Alonso has been a perennial power bat since entering the league in 2019, hitting a career 264 homeruns, the third most in all of baseball in that time frame behind the aforementioned Kyle Schwarber and New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge.
Alonso’s deal is the second largest in franchise history and projects to be Baltimore’s everyday first baseman moving forward.
