Unai Emery has confirmed that Harvey Elliott has not travelled with the Aston Villa squad to face FC Basel in the Europa League .
The Villa boss also revealed that he has spoken to the Liverpool loanee on several occasions about his lack of playing time.
Elliott has made only five appearances for Villa this season, but he would become a permanent member of Emery’s squad for £35 million if he reaches 10 appearances.
He has not featured in any of Villa’s last seven Premier League matchday squads, although he had been included in the teams for their previous five European fixtures this term.
“We are speaking with him and about his situation. He is not here with us,” Emery said in his pre-match press conference. “Hopefully we can get the best for him and the best for us.
