Annapolis City Attorney D. Michael Lyles has left the job the day after his office was accused in legal filings of citing a fake case using artificial intelligence .
Lyles, who occupied the position for six years, is leaving immediately, according to a Wednesday statement by newly-elected Mayor Jared Littman. Assistant City Attorney Kerry Berger is leading the Office of Law in an acting capacity.
“Mike has served the Annapolis community with integrity and professionalism,” Littman stated in a press release on Wednesday. “We are grateful for his years of public service and the legal guidance he has provided.”
