At least one person was reported killed in a massive fire that spread through an indoor market in the Russian city of Petersburg on Wednesday.

Video from the scene showed flames billowing into the evening sky through the roof of Pravoberezhny market.

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 100 people were evacuated from the area as firefighters battled the inferno.

A Ministry spokesperson said 1,500 square metres (16,145 square feet) went up in flames, and added that almost 100 firefighting personnel had been deployed to tackle the blaze.
