The United States was once considered a place where LGBTQ+ people could claim asylum.

But as the Trump administration ramps up a harsher immigration system, some immigrants are concerned that their protections are being stripped away.

The administration’s policy changes are driving some LGBTQ+ asylum seekers to rely on community organizations and each other.

Ralph Thomassaint Joseph, a reporter from the publication Documented, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to talk more about their concerns.
