One day after it was reported that Kyle Schwarber would be re-signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox fans learned that another coveted power bat would be joining a different AL East team.
Hours after news broke that Pete Alonso was finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow addressed the team’s reported pursuit of the “Polar Bear.”
“Craig Breslow said Alonso ‘didn’t line up right’ and they have to make the best decisions they can,” Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe posted on Bluesky. “Also said he doesn’t believe it’s true they have an aversion to the top end of the FA market. His message to fans? ‘We’re going to head back to Boston and continue to work.'”
