FOLLY BEACH — A well-known pair of Lowcountry cowboys will ride in the island’s Christmas parade again this year after a period of absence.
City leaders on Dec. 9 approved the James Island Cowboys ’ request to be in this year’s parade, despite the city’s ban on horses. At the same time, they gave the initial thumbs-up to alter the local ordinance that kept the cowboys from participating in the parade for a handful of years.
Dexter Flynn and his uncle Desmond Green are known as the James Island Cowboys. They can often be spotted galloping down Folly Road , the busy roadway that takes travelers from James Island onto Folly Beach. The pair also make regular appearances in downtown Charleston at the Sawdust Supper Club hosted at Frontier Lounge.
