BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The Georgia High School Association has reversed the majority of penalties issued to Brunswick High School following an on-field fight during their playoff game against Gainesville in November.
The decision came Wednesday morning during a called virtual meeting of the GHSA Board of Trustees, where Brunswick Principal Slade Turner and District Athletic Director Steve Waters appealed the sanctions.
The GHSA had originally suspended 41 Brunswick players , including two athletes ejected during the game based on the officials’ report. Those suspensions drew renewed scrutiny after Gainesville successfully won an injunction overturning its own penalties, arguing the GHSA had been inconsistent compared to its handling of a similar brawl between Northeast and Southwest high s
