CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - “They didn’t want to take initiative to find my particular kids help that they needed,” parent Britney Symonds said.

Symonds said three of her kids grew up in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.

She said each of them struggled with reading, and one of her children fell behind after getting an Individualized Education Program, or IEP, years late.

“I have begged Cedar Rapids Schools, ‘Please can we get him some support? An IEP? What can I do as a parent? Can I get him a tutor?’ Symonds said, ”and they basically shrugged it off as, ‘It’s fine.’"

She ultimately made the decision for two of her kids to leave the district last fall.
