UPDATE — 12/11/25, 9:05 a.m. ET: Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore was taken into police custody for an alleged assault shortly before news of his firing was announced.

Moore, 39, was detained by authorities just minutes before the university announced his termination on Wednesday, December 10, according to a police press release.

The Pittsfield Police Department responded to an address on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Road at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday “for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” the department stated.

A suspect in the case was taken into custody, who a source told the Detroit News was Moore.
