In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka Government on Wednesday formalised the promotion of Alok Kumar (IPS: 1994) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), effective retrospectively from September 12, 2025.
The promotion follows a series of legal battles fought by Alok Kumar, who had challenged the revival of a departmental inquiry that previously blocked his rise to the top post.
Alok Kumar, formerly Additional Director General of Police, Training, has now been shifted to head Prisons and Correctional Services , Bengaluru.
The reshuffle also affects B Dayananda (IPS: 1994), Additional Director General of Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, who has been transferred to head Police Training, Bengaluru.
