LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Human Services is reviewing how hundreds of child abuse reports were handled after lawmakers grilled state officials and demanded change during a recent hearing about the alleged "torture" of a child .
An Oct. 8 hearing of a state legislative committee stemmed from the arrests of Daniel Wright and Jaclyn Barnett, two adults charged with hundreds of counts of abuse in Baxter County.
Officials said that during the investigation into Wright and Barnett, police discovered the alleged abuse of the child had been reported to DHS at least 29 times over the span of a decade without intervention.
Tiffany Wright, the Director of the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS), said in a letter to Baxter County Prosecutor David Ethredge that the
