A federal judge has again ordered the Trump administration to end its deployment of California National Guard troops in Los Angeles, ruling the federal government kept the troops in place illegally after the summer’s “emergency conditions” had passed. President Trump initially federalized several thousand Guard members in June to protect federal property and personnel during demonstrations over immigration raids, later reducing the number to about 100. Governor Gavin Newsom, who previously sued over the deployment and filed a new injunction request last month, welcomed the ruling, saying Guard members had been deployed “against their own communities” and removed from essential public safety roles. The administration is expected to appeal.
