JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Johnson County Board of Supervisors advanced a proposal for an official vote on the Due Process and Workplace Safety Resolution during Wednesday’s work session.
The resolution, pushed by immigrant advocacy group Escucha Mi Voz, would require warrants for ICE or other law enforcement agencies to search non-public areas of county facilities.
“All workers deserve to feel safe from warrantless ICE raids at work and we demand Johnson County pass a strong resolution now,” said Eva Castro, an Escucha Mi Voz member.
The proposal comes months after immigration officials arrested Jorge Gonzalez while he was working at the Bread Garden in Iowa City.
