BATTLE CREEK - After both struggled in the first week of the season, Lakeview and Harper Creek each earned their first wins of the year in high school boys basketball action on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Lakeview 58, Gull Lake 56

The Spartans (1-2) edged Gull Lake (2-2) in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference action. Nolan Porter and Tay Newton each had 13 points to lead Lakeview. Isaiah McFerrin added 10 points. Lakeview's offense showed improvement after the Spartans scored less than 40 points in each game in losses to Marshall and Loy Norrix in the opening week of the season.
