CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The future of the historic Municipal Auditorium in Charleston is uncertain after the doors were shut almost two years ago.

Located in the heart of the city of Charleston, the auditorium has been closed since February 2024 due to health and safety concerns.

In April of 2024 an assessment gave two options: renovate and add an addition to the current building which would cost $25,363,029 or demolish and build a new building for $25,168,750.

Back in April of this year, a facade assessment was started and the Charleston mayor’s office said the assessment process could take months to complete.

WSAZ checked back in about the results of the study, and the mayor’s office says the study has not been finalized yet.
