OMAHA, Neb. —
Advocates are calling for solutions after three pedestrian crashes in the Omaha metro Tuesday evening, including two fatal crashes, marking the deadliest year for pedestrians in two decades.
A driver hit a 55-year-old woman using a motorized wheelchair in the area of 59th Street and Ames Avenue Tuesday evening. A 48-year-old bicyclist was killed near Hanscom Park in a separate crash Tuesday, near 32nd and Hickory streets.
Bike Walk Nebraska works to prevent incidents like these.
"It's a heartbreaking situation. We're talking numbers of crashes. But at the end of the day, these are human beings," Cait Dumas-Hein, Associate Director of Bike Walk Nebraska, said.
