Kinetic, a unit of Little Rock-based fiber optic provider Uniti Group Inc., completed a $23 million upgrade of its broadband equipment four months earlier than planned, the company said Wednesday.

With the upgrade, 85% of the company's fiber footprint will now be multi-gigabit capable, meaning that the internet infrastructure will be able to handle ethernet speeds up to 2 gigabits per second, according to Kinetic spokeswoman Victoria Carmen. At the beginning of the year, 25% of the company's fiber footprint was multi-gig capable.

The multimillion-dollar upgrade plan was revealed this past spring, Carmen said in a statement.
