New Delhi: The idea of training AI models in space always sounded like science fiction to me. It felt like something we might hear about in a documentary many years from now. But this week, a young startup backed by NVIDIA pushed that future much closer. Starcloud, a Washington based company, has managed to train and run lightweight AI models on a satellite that went up only last month.
The satellite, called Starcloud 1, carries an NVIDIA H100 GPU. That is the same chip used in many of the most advanced AI data centres on Earth. Watching companies argue about power shortages and cooling issues every other week, it was strange to think of an H100 silently working above us, away from all the noise and energy demands we have here.
