[DES MOINES, Iowa] — The Iowa teachers’ union is advocating for educators' rights as lawmakers prepare for the upcoming legislative session beginning January 12.
The Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) announced its campaign for a Bill of Rights during a press conference on Wednesday. The initiative outlines rights and protections for all Iowa educators, from preschool to higher education.
The ISEA's proposed Bill of Rights aims to support educators by ensuring quality resources, manageable workloads, and fair compensation.
Among the ten main points, the Bill of Rights emphasizes the right to choose high-quality resources and maintain a clear separation between work and personal time by keeping tasks within work hours. It also calls for fair pay and benefits for educators.
