CHICO — While California is listed as the worst state for package theft, local officials say Butte County is less impacted.
There haven’t been many reports of package thefts in the Butte County Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction, said BCSO Community Relations Coordinator Megan McMann.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey echoed that, but added that a Paradise Police Department official told him it could be because many residents handle thefts through the shipping companies. Often people choose to simply get a refund rather than report the theft to the police, he said.
While not rampant, a handful of package theft instances have been reported to the Chico Police Department this month.
