A 49-year old Sussex County man was convicted of trying to meet a 14-year-old for sex, authorities announced Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Larry Noel, a Stanhope resident, was convicted of luring, attempted sexual assault, attempted endangering the welfare of a child and impairing/debauching the morals of a child, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.

In 2019, Noel contacted an undercover officer who was posing as a 14-year-old on a social media application, Platkin said. Noel identified himself as a 29-year-old man and asked if the child wanted to meet so Noel could have sex with him, Platkin said.

Noel arranged to meet the “child” at a predetermined location in Bergen County, Platkin said. When Noel arrived at the predetermined time and location, he was arrested, Platkin said.
