The State University of New York Downstate Health Services University Hospital will begin the design phase of its $1.1 billion reconstruction, according to state officials.
Governor Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced the start of the design phase to modernize facilities at SUNY Downstate, a major central Brooklyn health care center and medical school that the community fought to keep open after the state tried to close it.
The reconstruction project will repair infrastructure, modernize inpatient rooms, expand the emergency department, and create a new hospital annex, including a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center that expands services in cardiology and oncology.
