ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Powerball jackpot has reached $1 billion after there was no winner of the big prize Wednesday night.

It is the seventh-largest jackpot in the game’s history, just behind the $1.08 billion prize that was claimed in July 2023.

There have been 42 consecutive drawings without the top prize being claimed.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

If it is won Saturday night and the winner takes the lump sum, the prize would be $461.3 million.
