The United States will deny tourist visas to applicants whose primary purpose of travel is to give birth in America in order to obtain US citizenship for their child, the US Embassy in India said Thursday.
In a post on X, the Embassy wrote, “U.S. consular officers will deny tourist visa applications if they believe the primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States to obtain U.S. citizenship for the child. This is not permitted.”
US President Donald Trump on January 20 signed an order to end birthright citizenship, which grants citizenship to everyone born on American soil.
The announcement follows concerns of travellers trying to exploit the US birthright citizenship rule rooted in the 14th Amendment which generally grants citizenship to nearly all children born on
