The 2025 government shutdown , the longest in U.S. history, ended after 43 days on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Throughout the shutdown, Trump, Republicans and congressional Democrats blamed each other for the failure of Congress to reach an agreement on funding for the government's 2026 fiscal year.
