Celtic fans are to pay tribute to legendary club striker John 'Dixie' Deans . Tributes flooded in earlier this week following news of the 79-year-old's passing. The club will hold an applause for the former frontman, who was described as one of the club's "finest goal scorers", ahead of their match against Roma tonight (December 11) at Celtic Park.
Dixie Deans, born John Kelly Deans in Johnstone on July 30, 1946, made is name at Motherwell in the 1960s. Bobby Howitt brought Deans to Fir Park in 1965 as he looked to find more goals. And scoring is what he did, with the forward netting 30 goals in the 1966/77 campaign - a post-war record for the club.
