HUNTSVILLE — A Huntsville Public Schools student was injured Wednesday afternoon when she was hit by a car after getting off a bus, according to school officials and Arkansas State Police.

A 15-year-old girl was walking across Arkansas 21 around 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by a southbound vehicle, according to Cindy Murphy, public information officer for the State Police.

The girl previously had exited a Huntsville school bus onto the shoulder of the roadway before beginning to cross, Murphy said.

The girl was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest in Springdale for treatment. The student’s condition was not released.

Huntsville Superintendent Jay Chalk said emergency medical personnel responded immediately and provided the student appropriate care.
