Multnomah County has closed the Stark Street Bridge east of Troutdale to all commercial trucks that weigh more than 19 tons.

The closure was announced Thursday morning and was made in coordination with the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The bridge has been heavily damaged, numerous times, by trucks that hit its structures while turning onto the bridge.

“The County is making this change after semi-trucks have repeatedly hit the bridge, frequently taking the turn onto the bridge too quickly,” Multnomah County transportation division director Jon Henrichsen said in a recent release.
