A man is facing upgraded charges in connection with an alleged assault that left an 85-year-old woman seriously injured.
Christopher Brewer has now been charged with first-degree attempted murder, court records show. He was initially charged with aggravated battery, but the charge was amended this week. Advertisement
Brewer was taken into custody after police responded to a disturbance outside of Whole Foods on West 119th Street in Olathe, Kansas, on Nov. 30.
Officers found a woman, 85-year-old Pat Cowart, suffering severe facial injuries. Witnesses told police they saw a man strike her with a hammer while she was loading groceries into her car.
An affidavit revealed that Brewer reportedly told police he "hit someone today" after being taken into custody.
