A passenger sailing aboard the Celebrity Apex from Port Canaveral had to be evacuated by the Coast Guard on Thursday.
The 65-year-old man was airlifted by a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk crew from the ship that was sailing about 24 nautical miles north of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, according to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast District.
The man “suffered from multiple medical conditions which required the patient to receive a higher level of care at a land-based hospital, resulting in being medevacked,” according to the release.
The Celebrity Apex recently repositioned to begin sailing from Port Canaveral. It was on a seven-night Western Caribbean itinerary that sailed from Port Canaveral on Dec. 6.
