WASHINGTON, DC — “AMERICA’S ECONOMIC CRISIS is about to get substantially worse,” New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said Thursday after Senate Republicans blocked the Democratic plan to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies for three years. “As families struggle with rising costs on everyday goods and essentials because of Trump’s tariffs, Republicans have voted today to make health care more expensive for tens of millions of working-class Americans. It is absolutely disgraceful,” she said in a statement. As many as 1.7 million New Yorkers are going to see their premiums skyrocket or lose their coverage entirely starting Jan. 1, Gillibrand said. Only four Republicans voted for the Democratic bill to extend the insurance subsidies, according to the Washington Post.
