The Maple Leafs’ waiting game regarding Chris Tanev continued through Thursday.

A day after he was evaluated by doctors, the veteran defenceman was on the ice at Scotiabank Arena, wearing a non-contact red sweater.

Results of Tanev’s appointment regarding his upper-body injury weren’t known by the team early on Thursday.

“Wish I did (know), but we can’t speed him up,” Leafs coach Craig Berube said hours before the Leafs played host to Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks. “We’re still waiting.”

Is there the potential for surgery for Tanev?

“No, not right now,” Berube said. “I don’t believe that’s going to be an option right now, so we’ll just be patient and wait for the results.”
