The Blue Jays’ quest for high-end, back-of-the-bullpen firepower hit another snag.
With baseball business continuing to heat up now that the Winter Meetings are over, the Atlanta Braves have reached agreement on a three-year, $45-million US deal with Robert Suarez .
The Jays had been heavily linked to Suarez, who made his MLB debut in 2021 and has been one of the most effective relievers in the game since.
Their pursuit of either a replacement for Jeff Hoffman in the closer’s role or someone to complement him in late innings has been an ongoing storyline this off-season since they signed starter Dylan Cease at the outset of free agency.
It’s unclear how close the Jays were to signing Suarez, but it’s possible that the price for the 31-year-old former Padre was too steep. On Tuesday
