Does Amazon owe you money? Maybe, but not necessarily.
Just because you have Prime doesn't mean you're part of the company's massive settlement with the Federal Trade Commission .
Amazon has begun sending out automatic payments of up to $51 as part of a $2.5 billion settlement over what the FTC described as "dark patterns," or design tricks that made it deceptively easy to enroll in Prime and frustratingly difficult to cancel. In its lawsuit , the FTC said Amazon buried the option to avoid Prime during checkout and required customers to navigate a lengthy unsubscribe path that employees reportedly called the "Iliad," a nod to the long Greek epic you probably read in school, for how many pages and clicks it took to actually cancel your subscription.
