The United States on Thursday imposed fresh sanctions on three nephews of Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro and on a group of firms accused of transporting Venezuelan oil, intensifying pressure on the South American government as Washington moves to disrupt oil revenue streams it says prop up illicit activity.
The Treasury Department named Franqui Flores, Carlos Flores and Efrain Campo among those targeted, a move the administration said will bar them from accessing any property or financial assets held in the United States and prevent Americans and companies from doing business with them. A Treasury official confirmed the sanctions on condition of anonymity ahead of an official announcement.
