MINERAL POINT, Wis. — A bicyclist is dead following a crash with a truck in Mineral Point Thursday morning, Iowa County Sheriff Michael Peterson confirmed to Channel3000.com .
The crash was reported at around 5:45 a.m. along Dodge Street, just south of Commerce Street. Bystanders were attempting life-saving measures on the cyclist when law enforcement arrived at the scene.
The cyclist, identified as 68-year-old Garth Scheel of Mineral Point, was taken to Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville where he later died.
An investigation reportedly found that Scheel and the truck driver were traveling north in an area without street lighting. Scheel was cycling within the lane of travel and was wearing dark clothing and had little reflective equipment on his bicycle.
