Sipping on an energy drink might seem like the perfect pick-me-up, but with concerns over their health impacts, experts are urging caution.

A recent case study published in December 2025 in medical journal BMJ Case Reports found that excessive energy drink consumption may be linked to increase risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

The report looked at an otherwise healthy man in his 50s who had extremely high blood pressure when he showed up at the hospital. Tests revealed he had a stroke, with symptoms such as weakness on the left side of his body, numbness, and difficulty balancing, walking, swallowing and speech. His blood pressure stabilized when he was given medication, but after his discharge, it increased again despited continued use of medication.
