The upper Wenatchee River hit “major flood stage” early Thursday near the mountain town of Leavenworth, in western Chelan County, as torrential rains continue to drench much of Washington.
Power outages were reported for much of Chelan County, including all of Leavenworth.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of flash floods and the heightened risk of mudslides, especially in “burn scar areas from recent wildfires and the county’s steep hillsides and canyons.”
As of 10:15 a.m., Thursday, the Wenatchee River was at 15 feet, or three feet above flood threshold, according to the US Geological Survey monitoring station in Peshastin, just east of Leavenworth on State Hwy 2.
