Premier Doug Ford’s government is taking an unusually long Christmas break from the legislature, extending past St. Patrick’s Day.

The move is prompting accusations from opposition parties he’s avoiding scrutiny over the controversial Skills Development Fund and lost jobs at auto and steel plants.

As MPPs wrapped up their fall sitting Thursday, government House Leader Steve Clark set the return for March 23 — following the traditional school break and five weeks later than the typical resumption after the Family Day weekend in mid-February.

“What they’re interested in right now is getting out of here as fast as they can, and getting as far away from yet another scandal,” said New Democrat Leader Marit Stiles, noting the extended breather follows an unusually long summer break of 137
