HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLBT) - Southern Miss has promoted offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Blake Anderson as the school’s 24th head football coach, the university announced on Thursday.
He replaces Charles Huff after one season at USM, who left for the Memphis head coaching job.
Anderson has 10 years of coaching experience at Arkansas State and Utah State.
Arkansas State played in six consecutive bowl games and won two Sun Belt conference championships under Anderson.
In his first season at Utah State, he guided the team to an 11–3 record, winning the Mountain West and the inaugural LA Bowl.
His second and third seasons saw the Aggies regress to back-to-back 6–7 records, both ending in bowl losses.
