Eleven fellows set to begin working at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in summer 2026 have withdrawn because of the uncertainty caused by the doctors’ salary law known as Bill 2, an internal letter circulating on social media has revealed.
The hospital confirmed Thursday the authenticity of the letter by president and executive director Dr. Lucie Opatrny, in which she responds to concerns brought forth by the Conseil des médecins, dentistes, pharmaciens et sages-femmes regarding how Bill 2 will impact the MUHC’s mission.
“These concerns reflect those I shared in my Dec. 3 letter to MUHC physicians,” she said. “Already, department chiefs have identified 11 highly-specialized fellows who had agreed to join the MUHC as of July 2026 but have since withdrawn due to the uncertainty
