Hugh Jackman has told how he once peed his pants while performing on stage.

The Wolverine star revealed he had an accident while starring in a stage production of Beauty and the Beast early in his career.

The 57-year-old recalled that a naturopath had told him he was dehydrated, so he drank "two gallons" of water before appearing on stage as Gaston.

"You can see what's happening," he said on the Howard Stern show, adding that while he picked up the actress playing Belle, "a little bit of p**s came out. I'm wearing red tights. I thought, 'uh-oh.'"

As he reached the song's climax, Hugh admitted, "I had a choice: You sing that F. I either sing it and p**s my pants or I don't sing it and humiliate myself. So, I sang it. And (the urination) was just going."

He told how he tried to hide it, saying that he "turned upstage" so the audience wouldn't see, adding, "I'm laughing to myself thinking my boot is filled with p**s, both boots filled with p**s. And somehow I'm on stage, 1500 people, 'Well, I'm getting away with this.'"

However, he soon realised the woman looking after wardrobe wasn't fooled.

"She's looking at my crotch. And I look down as I walk off and it's completely wet. So in that three minutes after the song, it had seeped through."

The star finished the story by concluding, "Nothing can embarrass you after that."

Hugh is currently starring in Song Sung Blue with Kate Hudson.

"I'm really proud of it," he told Howard Stern. "And when I look at the screen and I see my performance, I'm like, 'That's one of the better things I've done.'"
