Margaret Hamilton's screen-worn Wicked Witch of the West hat — the actual pointy black cone she wore while cackling through the skies of Oz — sold at Heritage Auctions this week for $575,000. The hat comes complete with its original 22-inch elastic chinstrap, the one that kept it strapped to Hamilton's head during those terrifying flying sequences.

Designed by legendary MGM costume designer Adrian, the hat measures nearly 14 inches tall with a 19.5-inch brim, tilted rakishly backward to create that iconic silhouette. It's one of only a few surviving examples and traces its provenance to the legendary 1970 MGM auction.
