With two alternative closure plans now added to the mix, the Kyrene Governing Board on Tuesday, Dec. 16, could vote on what campuses will be shuttered after the final bell rings on the current school year.
Both alternative plans call for closing fewer schools, although Superintendent Laura Toenjes said even though one spares middle schools for now, some inevitably would be shuttered within a few years.
The two new proposals theoretically are up before the board along with the original plan to close two of the district’s six middle schools and six of its 19 elementary schools.
But whether the board actually votes remains to be seen, as board President Kevin Walsh consistently has stressed that a decision could be delayed into next year.
