SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - From the Sioux Falls Humane Society to getting a shot at becoming a search and rescue dog, Marlin, a once stray dog, is now at the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation in California, proving that a lost pup can still find its purpose.
When it comes to identifying dogs for search and rescue, collaboration between the different state animal shelters and organizations is essential to make sure that the dog has the proper training and behavior to succeed.
“One of the things the Canine Center looks for is if that dog has a really good drive for ball play,” said Missy John, owner of Nerdy K9 Academy. “They want them to be able to work good for a toy so they have a reward.
