ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

On Dec. 11, 2025, former City Council candidate Teresa Garcia conceded to fourth-term incumbent Klarissa Peña after a close runoff election on Dec. 9, for the district 3 city council seat. Peña received 50.51% (3,338) of votes compared with 49.49% (3,270) for Garcia.

On Thursday, Garcia held a press conference at Alamosa Park to thank her supporters. District 3 is centered in Southwest Albuquerque, West of the Rio Grande. Both candidates tackled key issues within the district, including, infrastructure, crime, economy and homelessness.
